CoachCall Resource

Smart watch setup for baseball pitch calls.

CoachCall Pro can send calls to Apple Watch and Wear OS watches, giving players another way to receive calls during game-day communication.

Watch basics

Watches are useful, but they still need a good setup.

Smart watches are part of the Pro setup. They are not magic range extenders by themselves, but they can be a very useful receiving screen when linked correctly and tested before game use.

Player Mode

Player Mode is how the watch gets linked.

The coach sends the player an email invite from Connected Team. The player accepts the invite, downloads CoachCall, and signs in. From Player Mode on the phone, the player creates an Apple Watch or Wear OS link code, then enters that code in the CoachCall watch app. After that, the watch knows which player and team it should follow.

Player Mode setup tips

Player Mode can be used on the coach's phone when needed.

Player Mode does not have to be on the player's own phone. If the coach is setting up a compatible smart watch paired to the coach's phone, the coach can sign into Player Mode for that player and link the watch from there.

Each Player Mode account needs its own email address. If you are setting up watches yourself, you can use a real player email, a parent email, or an email alias that forwards to you. Gmail aliases and Apple Hide My Email are common ways to create unique addresses while still receiving messages in one inbox.

After the watch is linked, Player Mode does not have to stay open for the watch to receive calls. Keeping Player Mode open on a phone near the player can still help with range and reliability, especially when the phone has clear line of sight.

What to expect

Use the watch app for speed and notifications for backup.

Link from Player Mode

Player Mode creates the short code used to link an Apple Watch or Wear OS watch. Once linked, the watch knows which player and team to follow.

Keep the watch app open for speed

The fastest watch updates come when the watch app is open. Notifications can still help when the app is not open, but they may be delayed.

LTE watches can help with distance

LTE-capable watches are the strongest option when distance is a concern. Non-LTE watches depend more on the paired phone and field conditions.

Field reality

Distance depends on devices, signal, and line of sight.

Dugouts, bodies, fences, equipment, and phone placement can all affect delivery. Test the watch at the field, not just at home.

Next steps

Link the watch, then send a test call.
